Located
just opposite the Red Fort is the
imposing Jama Masjid with its black and white striped onion domes and
minarets. It is one of the largest and the most elegant mosques in India.
Another must visit is situated inside the premises of
Qutub Complex, the
first mosque of India, Quwwatu'l-Islam Masjid. Built with rubble stone and
thickly plastered, the double-storyed mosque of Khirki Masjid is believed
to be one of the seven mosques built by Khan-i-Jahan Junan Shah.
Constructed before the Jamali Kamali Masjid, the Moth-ki-Masjid merits a
visit as it occupies a significant position in the evolution the Mughal
Mosque. Some of the special features of this mosque include minhrab and
arches.
